This document presents a brief overview of the assessment of the global private equity investor database. By using a keyword crawler, we identified private equity investors with food-related terminology on their websites. The resulting comprehensive Excel spreadsheet enables focused targeting of relevant investors within the food sector.
The Danish government has allotted one billion Danish kroner (about €168 million) to bolster the sector, of which 675 million kroner (€90 million) are exclusively allocated to the novel Fund for Plant-Based Foods.
In this article, we are introducing three interesting food-focused private equity funds from our keyword crawler-based food private equity investors list.
1. CataCap (Copenhagen)
CataCap, a private equity investment company headquartered in Copenhagen, Denmark, was established in 2011. The company’s main objective is to invest in small and medium Danish enterprises that show substantial growth potential and have inventive business models with long-term viability. CataCap has acquired a controlling stake in NLM Vantinge, a company focused on recycling and upcycling industrial byproducts and waste materials in the food industry. The company intends to produce feed additives to enhance milk production and fat content in dairy cows, thereby reducing the environmental impact of milk production.
2. Polaris Private Equity (Copenhagen)
Polaris Private Equity, headquartered in Copenhagen, Denmark, was established in 1998. The company specializes in funding the commercial services, manufacturing, and industrial sectors. Polaris boasts an impressive history, having made 120 investments in total, achieving 47 exits, and currently having a portfolio of 16 active investments. Since its establishment, Polaris has raised six funds and secured capital commitments of approximately £2 billion. One noteworthy investment in the food industry was made in Hamlet Protein, a leading global provider of premium animal feed made from high-quality soy. Polaris joined forces with the firm’s founder in 2005 to facilitate its worldwide growth. The collaboration resulted in the company’s figures doubling and gaining a prominent standing in the worldwide market, ultimately leading to its acquisition by Altor and Goldman Sachs in 2015.
3. Executive Capital (Copenhagen)
Executive Capital is a private equity investment company headquartered in Copenhagen, Denmark. The firm was established in 2007 and specializes in investing in small to medium-sized Danish companies The company invests in multiple sectors, including B2B, B2C, manufacturing, industrials, life sciences, healthcare, retail, and life science. In the realm of food, Executive Capital’s acquisition of Paradise ice cream stands out as a noteworthy purchase they made in February 2010. This transaction marked Executive Capital’s initial venture into the food industry. Paradise Ice Cream, established in 2007 and situated in Copenhagen, Denmark, is an innovative and dynamic franchise, specializing in the production of freshly made quality ice cream.
