This document provides an analysis of a global database of private equity investors with a focus on the sports sector. The team used a keyword-tracking crawler to identify investors whose websites mention sports-related terms. Consequently, we compiled an extensive Excel spreadsheet to accurately identify key investors in the sports industry.
In the field of sports in private equity there’s an increasing interest in sustainable and health-oriented sports ventures, aligning with broader societal trends towards wellness and environmental consciousness. In this article, we are introducing three interesting equity funds from our keyword crawler-based sports-private equity investors list.
1. Activa Capital (Paris)
Activa Capital is an independent private equity firm located in Paris, France, renowned for its strong entrepreneurial spirit. The firm, based in Paris, was founded in 2001 and specialises in partnering with ambitious mid-sized French companies, typically valued between €20 million and €200 million. The Paris-based investment firm has made significant investments in the sports sector, particularly in cycling. In June 2016, Activa Capital acquired a majority stake in LOOK Cycle, a French brand known for designing and manufacturing high-end bicycles and cycling accessories. LOOK Cycle is especially renowned for its innovations in clipless pedals and for being a leader in carbon technology, a key aspect of modern cycling equipment.
2. Experienced Capital (Paris)
Experienced Capital is a Paris-based private equity firm that invests in high-potential brands across various consumer sectors in France and Europe, including beauty and wellness, leisure, sports, food and beverage, travel, fashion and accessories, mobility, pet care, and child/baby. Since 2019, the company has invested in Monday Sports Club through its fund ECP II. MSC is the foremost multidisciplinary fitness boutique group in France, offering a comprehensive and intense 45-minute workout on a bike, yoga mat, or in front of a boxing bag. In just a few years, it has built a strong community that shares moments of escape and strives to surpass themselves in music, vibrating in unison.
3. Montefiore Investment (Paris)
Montefiore Investment is a Paris-based private equity firm that specializes in serving SMEs and mid-cap companies. Established in 2005, the company invests in France and is known for its involvement in deals ranging from 10 to 50 million dollars. Montefiore typically engages in a limited number of deals per year, with a peak in activity around 2019. In 2017, Montefiore invested in Cercles de la Forme, a leading network of gyms in Paris. Since Montefiore Investment acquired a stake in the company in the summer, it has made further acquisitions. The company now has a total of 32 clubs in the Paris suburbs, providing over 28,000 m² of top-quality sports facilities in the capital.
