Belgium has a strong reputation for its high-quality chocolate and is home to some of the world’s most renowned chocolate brands, such as Godiva, Neuhaus, and Leonidas.
In this article, we are introducing three interesting food-focused private equity funds from our keyword crawler-based food private equity investors list.
1. M80 Partners (Brussels)
M80 is a private equity firm that invests mainly in companies located in Benelux and France. The company typically focuses on companies with sales ranging from €25m to €300m, EBITDA between €5m and €30m, and an enterprise value between €25m and €250m. M80 has made several investments in the food sector and acquired Le Pain Quotidien in 2020. Le Pain Quotidien is a Belgian company that operates and franchises neighborhood bakery cafes; it was founded in 1990. The acquisition encompasses the brand and its international master franchise operations, as well as stores located in Belgium, France, and the UK, and a production unit based in Belgium.
2. Fortino Capital (Antwerp)
Fortino Capital is a leading venture capital and growth equity firm headquartered in Belgium. Fortino Capital applies a hybrid approach of Venture Capital and Private Equity to invest in companies, both young and established, focusing specifically on SaaS, brand marketing, sales automation, and telecommunications sectors. Fortino Capital has made a significant contribution to investments in the food sector. On September 10th, 2019, the company invested in FoodDESK, a software company based in Belgium. This investment aimed to support companies that aim to solve unique issues in the food sector, particularly in enhancing food safety and efficiency in various processes.
3. Vendis Capital (Brussels)
Vendis Capital Management, established in 2009 and headquartered in Brussels, is a private equity firm that focuses on investments in the European consumer goods industry. The company also actively assists companies in advancing to the next level, which could include expanding internationally, digitizing their business, developing new product lines, or entering new sales markets. In 2020, the investment company purchased Pokawa, the foremost fast-casual restaurant chain in France for poke bowls, an exotic Hawaiian-inspired dish. Pokawa has experienced substantial growth since its establishment in 2017, with approximately 30 primarily self-owned restaurants throughout France by the conclusion of 2020 and newly opened locations in Belgium and Luxembourg.
