List of 3 Gaming and eSports startup investors

The gaming and esports industry is at the forefront with new games and platforms gaining attraction rapidly. This article presents three interesting venture capital investors who are looking to invest in gaming and esports from our research-based VC funds list.

1. Courtside Venture Capital (USA)

Courtside VC is a New York-based early-stage investment company that focuses on sports, digital media, wellness, fitness, gaming, and esports. The company has founded, built, and backed many innovative companies, for example, Freeletics, Europe’s number 1 fitness app, and Nifty Games, a mobile sports game platform.

2. Trust Esport Ventures (France)

Founded by former entrepreneurs, Trust Esports is interested in funding start-ups in the digital entertainment sector, specifically focusing on games, security, monetization, and technologies developed for competitions and streaming. One company they have supported is Toornament, a global leading SaaS for esports competition organizers.

3. Play Ventures (Singapore)

Play Ventures is an early-stage venture capital fund that invests in free-to-play and web3 game studios. They are also interested in other game service start-ups internationally. The company is working on a diverse portfolio. A company they have supported is First Light, which is developing a gaming studio for web3 mobile gaming.

Update 2024: In August 2023, Play Ventures announced industry-leading returns from our debut Fund I. In less than four years, we returned 1.5x the distributed capital to investors. With 20 companies remaining in the portfolio and six years left in the fund’s lifetime, that figure is set to increase significantly.

Our keyword analysis-based list include the following general columns:

  • Name of the VC fund
  • Country of origin
  • URL
  • E-mail (general)
  • Investment focus (if data available)
  • Corporate VC (yes/no)

The following columns are based on the keyword crawler, which is a Python-based, in-house developed tool that crawls every page for at least 45 seconds to find the respective keywords.

  • total_frequency (e.g.: 1197) – total counted occurrences of keywords on the VC website
  • average_keyword_rate (e.g. 0.03) – average rate of keyword occurrences per subpage in relation with total number of words
  • most_common_keyword (e.g. „gaming“) – keyword that was counted the most often on respective VC website
  • most_common_keyword_frequency (e.g. 54) – number of times the most common keyword was counted
  • sub_url_highest_rate (e.g. https://rewired.com/esports/#) – sub url with the highest number of found keywords
  • highest_rate (e.g. 0.12) – highest keyword rate per subpage
  • frequency_per_keyword: {‘gaming’: 1077, ‘esports’: 120} – dictionary of number of keyword occurrences per keyword
